Fired on my day offPosted by Fransen on April 27, 2004 at 11:27:30:
I was a supervisor with high blood pressure and diabetes. Two weeks prior to Easter, I asked for that sunday off. My employer said that he would work with me. One week before Easter, my supervisor told me that I would have to get someone to cover my shift. I became sick at work that same day and the doctor took me off work. I brought my excuse to work and gave it to my supervisor. The following friday, some of the people under me told me that my supervisor said that he was going to try to fire me. I came up there to talk to him. During the time that I was waiting for him, an employee appreciation day was going on and he ws in the dunking booth. I waited at my desk for him to get through. While I was at my desk, I sent him, the other supervisor, and their boss an email again reminding them that I would not be at work that weekend due to illness. I talked to my supervisor about our issue and left. Easter sunday, only 2 of my reps came to work. I called up there to get a head count and one of the reps told me what was going on. I advised her to go get another supervisor so we can do something and I would call back. When I called back, the other supervisor told me that he would be able to help until later that afternoon. I told him that would be fine and that I would come up there to make sure things were ok. My boss called me and I was unable to come to work at that present time. He told me to come see him the first thing monday morning. I reminded him again that I was not even supposed to be there and I could not physically come in at that time. When I got back to work that Monday, he terminated me due to negligance. Can he do that even if I had a doctor's excuse taking me off work?
