termination for sexual harrasement?Posted by M. Peck on December 10, 1999 at 21:58:30:
A relative was recently fired from a store for sexual harrasement. He had no idea. When he walked into work, the manager (a woman) had his check ready and told him that 3 girls had complained that he had touched them inappropriately. He asked who the accusers were and the manager withheld their names. He said the only touching he did was after they had touched him first and in both cases it consisted of tickling. No touching of sexual areas. One girl told him to stop but later she came back and tickled him again. It's not like this was going on all day. These were infrequent events.
My problem is that he was not given a chance to defend himself and he was kept in the dark about who is accusers were. It's more or less she said, he said, but it was 3 versus 1 and this was after being out for 3 weeks for being sick.So he has no idea when these incidents were supposed to have happened. In addition the manager told him that they would give him a good job referral. Something is wrong here and I'm looking for a good source of info about sexual harrasement in the workplace. What's required by employers and employess and what is considered the proper conduct to terminate someone for sexual harrasement. Thanks!
