: I would like to tell you that the movie Deliverance was not very far off base. I am a southern born, northern raised person that had been employed in the auto industry in Alabama until my immediate supervisor attacked me in my office cube one day. My union of 18 years refused to represent me because I was blocking the progression of southern boys that needed to work. The NLRB stated that representation did not have to be good representation, which basically means even if you pay union dues, that it is no guarantee that the union will represent you. No grievances were ever filed in my case and the union officials lied on affidavits in order to prevent me from returning to my job. My corporation found me a liability because I could no longer tolerate their supervisors attacks after ten years. They offered to move me (not the attacker) to another state, they made every attempt to get me to move to another position and give up the position that I had held for 13 years, which is a common practice in the auto industry. They refused information regarding the current status of the attacker and his discipline and I was told that "I needed to face facts that we would be expected to return back to work and work together" and that I would be dealing with him a lot and that I would just get over the "......." thing. I walked out of this corporation on 8/11/99 because of this last comment and have been unsure of my status since that date. My corporation which rated me in the top 10% of all salary auto worker employees for many years reported to my insurance that I had been terminated and I have several other items that say that I have resigned. In today's society I cannot believe that women are still expected to put him with situations like this. These individuals that make sexual comments and create workplace violence do not realize what they are doing to these families. I have been in counseling to recover from these episodes of my supervisor. I have been forced to turn to Internet sales in order to help support my family. My son who was a nationally ranked ice skater is in danger of no longer getting to ice skate due to lack of funds, our savings are gone, I have no hope of a retirement or ever finding a job in this area again because of this man. It is not certain if our family can survive here at all. We are currently wondering if we will have to file bankruptcy. All because this man thought he was superior to women and could treat them like dirt and my management and union turned the other check. Please tell your readers that all is not well in Alabama. Maye this is why there are currently a shortage of qualified workers in the United States. We are feed up!
